This is the text of the ad that ran in newspapers in New York city on May 24, 1982.
"We hear you, New York. You're sad. You're upset. As you have every right to be.
You lost your station two weeks ago, today. The one you grew up with, the one that kept you company at home, at work, and in your car. It's considered to be a no-no in radio to mention the name of a competitor, but we're going to do it.
You blew it, WABC. You took over two decades worth of music, memories and good times and threw it in the trash can. Why you did it, we'll never know.
But we do know one thing. We're one of what have long been regarded as "the other stations" in town. None of us were ever going to beat the best at their own game. We knew it, they knew it, and you knew it.
We're WFUN, 790 on your AM radio dial. We've been what some folks call a "MOR" (middle-of-the-road) station ever since we first signed on in 1962.
But now, we're going to be the station you can turn to for all the top hits from years gone by.
And we're going to do our very best to make you feel good again when you turn your radio on.
It all begins in eight days, so mark your calendar for June 1st, 1982.
Because that's when the fun will begin."
